As my bride and I conversed the other day we talked about the rhetoric in both America and Christian America, outside and inside the church, especially during this politically season when demonization occurs often. That demonization occurs around “how tough it is, how tough we have it” living here in the good ole USofA. My bride commented that any of us who live here ARE the 1% (as opposed to the 99%) when it comes to the rest of the world. Your article points that out, we are the “rich” ones in so many ways. Regardless what the 23d Psalm says, we just can’t “let go of our wants.” We are indeed Ad(d)dicts and then some. But will we confess it?

Having been on the receiving end of a few of those sorts of comments in the past, I appreciate your take on this. I am still struggling with forgiveness issues for some public statements about a supposed issue I was guilty of. The lesson I am finally beginning to understand is that those who accuse will answer for their actions and those who know me will know that it was not true. Easier said than done, but after some time it is coming into fruition a bit at a time. Thank you and bless you, Blake, for the reminder that it is not an issue I have struggled with alone. It can be lonely in the pit at times.

Well said, Blake. We must always take the time and make the efforty to check our hearts and our motives before we consider speaking to or about others. We are to admonished to hold ourselves to a different standard than those who “have no hope,” according to God’s Word.

Very well said, Blake. We are called to do the hard things, It is part and parcel of our calling, and part of being a responsible adult. We tend to rely too heavily on what will become of our “public image”, and not enough on the calling, teaching, support, grace, love, mercy of God.
